xAI Construction Manager leads a self-performing fluid/mechanical crew building industrial HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Oversees foremen, sets safety and quality standards, and removes roadblocks to maintain workflow.
Responsibilities
Directly oversee foremen and, through them, a large self-perform fluid/mechanical crew installing industrial HVAC, pipe, chilled water, cooling towers, chillers, condensers, CRAC and CRAH units, plumbing, and fire protection, including pipe welding and setting heavy mechanical equipment
Set clear expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and conduct, and hold foremen and crews accountable when those expectations are missed
Remove roadblocks so crews can keep working: materials, access, sequencing, coordination with other trades, and decisions
Recommend promotions, role changes, and corrective action based on performance
Plan and run the night-shift assignment, including extended hours, as part of a 24/7 operation
Keep fluid and mechanical installations on SpaceXSI’s quality and reliability standards, including code compliance and system integrity required for data center cooling and fire protection
Track daily progress and maintain logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems
Build and hold an aggressive construction schedule, on time and within budget
Champion SpaceXSI’s safety program and a zero-incident culture around pressure piping, hot work, rigging and setting heavy mechanical equipment, and work at heights
Resolve on-site issues — material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing, and trade coordination — with attention to system integrity and code compliance
Inspect work for compliance with local regulations, mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXSI quality standards
Report progress, fluid/mechanical construction metrics, and risks to senior leadership
Qualification
Track record on data centersExperience with Procore
Required
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
3+ years leading fluid/mechanical construction teams, including supervision of foremen
3+ years of direct hands-on experience in fluid/mechanical installations, including industrial HVAC, pipefitting, chilled water, plumbing, or fire protection
Preferred
Experience leading large self-perform crews on industrial or mission-critical mechanical, piping, or fire-protection projects
Direct hands-on experience on industrial processes or heavy mechanical projects
Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field
Track record on data centers, hyperscale facilities, or similar mission-critical mechanical construction
Familiarity with Memphis-area building codes, IMC, IPC, NFPA 13, and industrial permitting
Experience with Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar tools on complex infrastructure work
Strong grasp of mechanical critical path, sequencing, and coordination with electrical, structural, and civil trades through commissioning
Understanding of data center cooling and fire-protection requirements, including chilled water, cooling towers, CRAC and CRAH units, and systems built for 24/7 operation
