Generalmatter Staff Accountant at General Matter responsible for owning key accounting functions and scaling financial infrastructure. This role involves designing and implementing accounting processes, controls, and systems to support long-term growth.

Responsibilities

Own key aspects of the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement accuracy.
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of scalable accounting processes, policies, controls, and documentation.
Establish and manage a comprehensive accrual process to ensure accurate and timely expense recognition across the organization.
Oversee the review and reconciliation of open purchase orders, partnering with operations and procurement to ensure accurate financial tracking and timely resolution.
Prepare and analyze financial reporting, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance and operational visibility.
Independently research and resolve complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies.
Design, implement, and strengthen internal controls appropriate for a rapidly scaling, regulated advanced manufacturing environment.
Serve as a key accounting partner to cross-functional stakeholders, providing financial insights and guidance to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Own fixed asset accounting processes, including capitalization, assets placed in service, depreciation, and reconciliation of capital expenditures across purchase orders and related components.
Identify opportunities to automate workflows, enhance financial systems, and improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of accounting operations.
Support financial audits, technical accounting assessments, and other strategic initiatives while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and compliance.
Take ownership of special projects and evolving accounting priorities as the business continues to grow.

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated ownership of complex accounting processes and financial reporting.
Strong command of US GAAP, with substantial experience in both technical and operational accounting.
CPA designation, active or inactive.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage accounting processes, exercise sound judgment, and resolve complex financial matters.
Experience developing, implementing, or improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Preferred

Advanced Excel proficiency and significant experience working with ERP systems; QuickBooks experience is a plus.
Experience in a high-growth, early-stage, or rapidly scaling organization, with a track record of building accounting infrastructure and improving operational efficiency.
Strong technical accounting expertise, including experience with accruals, fixed assets, financial reporting, and complex reconciliations.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across finance, engineering, operations, and procurement.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior leadership and external advisors.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to operate strategically while remaining deeply engaged in day-to-day execution.
