Matx Firmware Engineer at Matx developing and maintaining board management firmware on ARM microcontrollers. Responsible for sensor monitoring, power and thermal management, firmware updates, and hardware health reporting.
Responsibilities
Develop and extend board management firmware built on open-source firmware stacks
Enhance and maintain embedded firmware running on ARM microcontrollers, including code delivered by silicon partners
Own platform capabilities end to end: sensor monitoring, power and thermal management, firmware update, and hardware health reporting
Participate in board bring-up alongside hardware and system software teams, from first power-on through production
Debug across the firmware/hardware boundary using lab equipment and low-level tooling
Qualification
Comfort in a labExposure to firmware security
Required
Strong embedded C development experience on ARM-based microcontrollers
Experience with real-time or bare-metal firmware: interrupts, timing constraints, and working within tight memory budget
Direct experience working with embedded firmware with a hyperscaler/datacenter.
Hands-on familiarity with board-level buses and management interfaces
Experience working within large existing firmware codebases — extending, integrating, and maintaining code you didn't originate
Comfort in a lab: schematics, scopes, and hardware that doesn't behave the way the documentation says
Ability to collaborate closely with hardware, silicon, and system software engineers
Preferred
Experience with Linux-based board management controller firmware and its build systems
Familiarity with server platform management standards and protocols
Exposure to firmware security: secure boot, signed updates, attestation
Prior involvement in open-source firmware communities
