Camunda Senior Product Builder at Camunda owns backend architecture for Camunda Hub, managing clusters, tenants, and access controls. The role focuses on building scalable mechanisms for fleet management and foundational platform design.
Responsibilities
Camunda Hub is where enterprises run Camunda at scale. From Hub they manage their clusters and tenants, decide who can do what, and roll changes out across the whole organization. We’re looking for a Senior Product Builder to own the backend and architecture that let Hub manage a whole fleet of clusters. Your first focus will be the mechanism that sends access, secret, tenant and licence changes out to every connected cluster and brings deployments, health and audit records back. From there, you’ll shape Hub’s foundations: its event model, the service boundaries and data model other teams build on, and how Hub behaves when things fail or get upgraded. The platform is your product. Your users are platform administrators, Centres of Excellence and the builders across Camunda who depend on what you create. You’ll join a new two-person pod in our remote-first team. You’ll have real ownership as the person who makes the call, and you’ll build AI-first, from written specs through to production. Our customers run mission-critical processes on Camunda, so your work will matter to them every day.
Take over Hub's fleet propagation mechanism from the team building its first version, and make it work for access, secrets, tenants, licences and custom roles
Write short design documents for foundational changes, get them reviewed by the teams that depend on them, and turn them into tested, shipped code
Design how Hub behaves when things go wrong: offline clusters, partial failures, Hub outages, and clusters being adopted or detached
Build the path from clusters back to Hub, starting with deployment inventory, health, audit records and licence status
Design Hub's first event and webhook mechanism, so admins and agents can react to changes instead of polling for them
Join the pod's rotations and Hub on-call, and help other builders take on backend work through reviews, guidelines and contract tests
What You Will Bring to the Role:
Experience building and running backend systems in production that other teams or customers depend on
Comfort taking a problem nobody owns yet and turning it into a design, a plan and shipped code
Product judgment for technical users: you talk to the people who use your APIs and make trade-offs on their behalf
Clear, short writing that lets a remote team review and decide asynchronously

Required
Designed and shipped a control plane or similar system that pushes desired state to many targets. Knows outbox or event-log patterns, idempotent apply, versioning, retries and drift reconciliation
Senior backend engineering in Java (API design, relational data models, multi-tenant SaaS services) and hands-on Helm and Kubernetes for self-managed installations
Software architecture and failure analysis: partial failure, blast radius, consistency trade-offs. Has debugged production incidents in a distributed system and is ready for on-call
Has shaped an API or platform as a product, and writes design docs other teams can build on. Gets agreement across teams without formal authority
Builds AI-first from written specifications and checks AI output as carefully as any other code
