BILL Principal Technical Accountant at BILL responsible for financial planning, forecasting, and expense management. Partner with business leaders and use AI tools to optimize finance processes.
Responsibilities
Business Partnering: Serve as the finance counterpart to department leaders. Build trust, challenge assumptions constructively, and translate financial results into decisions on headcount, vendors, and investment priorities.
Executive Reporting: Prepare clear, accurate expense reporting and talking points for the CFO and senior leaders. Keep it short, lead with the takeaway, and recommend next steps.
Forecasting and Budgeting: Run the annual budget and quarterly forecast cycles for your areas. Convert business plans into well supported expense forecasts and keep them current as conditions change.
Expense Management: Own operating expense planning, forecasting, and variance analysis for your assigned organizations. Track spend against budget, flag risks and opportunities early, and recommend actions.
Month-End Close and Accruals: Lead the FP&A side of the monthly close. Prepare and review accruals, prepaids, and reclasses; partner with Accounting to ensure expenses are recorded accurately and on time; and explain budget vs. actual variances with clear, concise commentary.
Process Improvement with AI: Identify manual, repetitive steps in accrual, reporting, and forecasting workflows and redesign them using AI tools and automation. Build repeatable processes, document them, and share what works with the broader team.
Vendor and Spend Insights: Analyze vendor and category spend, contract commitments, and run-rate trends. Support savings initiatives and business cases with Procurement and budget owners.
A Reliable Owner: You deliver on close deadlines, tie out your work, and handle details without being chased.
A Partner, Not a Scorekeeper: You build credibility with leaders at every level. You listen well, communicate clearly, and can say no or push back while keeping the relationship strong.
Grounded in Accounting: You understand how expenses flow from the ledger to the P&L. You are comfortable with accruals, prepaids, capitalization, and opex vs. capex, and you know when a number does not look right.
AI Forward: You actively look for ways to apply AI tools to finance work, test them with good judgment, and validate the output before it reaches a decision maker.
Data Fluent: You are advanced in Excel and comfortable pulling data from ERP and planning systems to find the signal in the noise.
