Assort Health Senior People Partner (HRBP) at Assort Health advises technical leaders on team organization, performance management, and talent retention. The role partners with CTO and engineering leaders to build and scale the R&D organization.
Responsibilities
As a Senior People Partner (HRBP) for Tech, you will be the trusted advisor to our technical leaders on everything that involves people: how teams are organized, how engineers grow, how performance is managed, and how we keep our best builders as we scale. You will partner directly with our CTO, engineering and product leaders, and managers across our R&D organization, and you will help set the standard for how People Partners work at Assort. You will report to the SVP of People and work closely with People Operations and Recruiting.
This is a builder's seat, helping us grow from ~300 to over 1,000 people in the coming years. You have seen what an engineering organization looks like at each stage of that climb, and you know what has to change before it breaks. You will build this function ahead of the curve.
Partner with technical leaders on org design and planning: Work with engineering and product leaders to design team structures, set spans of control, plan headcount, and navigate reorgs, new manager transitions, and leadership changes. Bring a clear point of view on how the R&D org should evolve at the next stage.
Own leveling, performance, and promotion for R&D: Own the content and judgment behind calibrations, 9-box reviews, promotion decisions, and compensation recommendations for engineers and product managers. Build and maintain career ladders across IC and management tracks.
Compete for top technical talent: Partner with Recruiting and leaders on engineering hiring strategy, offer competitiveness, and equity philosophy, knowing we compete with frontier AI labs and top startups for the same people.
Make People Partnering AI-native: Use AI to prepare for leader conversations, analyze org health data, draft documentation, and remove manual work, and set the standard for how the People team uses these tools.
Own employee relations: Handle investigations, complaints, and sensitive situations with fairness, discretion, and sound judgment, and partner with Legal when the stakes call for it. Spot patterns early and fix root causes, not just individual cases.
Coach engineering and product managers: Advise first-time and senior managers on feedback, difficult conversations, team dynamics, and underperformance, and feed what you learn back to People Operations so programs address real needs.
Drive retention and org health: Track sentiment, attrition, and burnout signals across technical teams, run stay conversations with high performers, and bring leadership clear, data-backed recommendations.
5+ years in People Partner or HR Business Partner (HRBP) roles supporting engineering and product, including leadership experience: You have advised CTOs and VPs of Engineering and led or mentored other partners.
Hypergrowth experience at a technology company: You have been in the seat while an engineering org scaled, ideally as the company grew from roughly 250 to 1,000+ employees, and you can describe what broke along the way and what you did about it.
Credibility with technical leaders: You understand how engineering teams work, including leveling, IC versus manager paths, and how technical work is evaluated, and you can give direct, well-reasoned advice that engineers respect.
